Why IBL

The 21st Century has heralded a rapid growth in information and changing circumstances for our students. It is no longer sufficient to provide them with knowledge when that knowledge is out of date within years of being taught. To be successful, what our children require is to be able to learn the process of thinking and learning .... to be flexible and adaptable, be excellent communicators, resilient, team players, have ICT skills, and learn how to learn.

The current model of teaching and teacher development is not completely suited to the delivery of the skills that are now required. Many schools and teachers struggle in redefining their role in the classroom. Many students become disengaged by a curriculum and a system that is not relevant to their life and future.

What is required is a paradigm shift in approach.

This does not mean there isn’t explicit teaching or rote learning. These are critical to developing the appropriate neuronal pathways of each student’s brain. We firmly believe that explicit teaching and rote learning are part of the learning equation.

However, teachers must move from focusing on imparting knowledge through to being the facilitators of learning

To be successful in the 21st century world our students must be skilled in

  • Interpersonal skills - communication, listening, empathy, reflective, team building, responsible, self-aware, collaborating
  • Being Adaptable and Flexible - as they will be thrown into new jobs and new careers due to changing circumstances
  • Being Problem Solvers - Comprehending, analytical, discerning, evaluating, synthesizing, lateral thinkers
  • Being Self Motivated and Self Disciplined
  • Being Resilient and Risk Takers - taking on the challenges with gusto, being confident
  • Independence
  • Leadership
  • Numeracy, Literacy and Tech Savvy
  • Ethically Grounded
  • Love learning and realise that they must continue to learn their whole life

Traditional education has its focus on students understanding information - not the process of learning. What is more critical than ever is for our students to understand and be developed in the process of learning and producing results by themselves. This is a paradigm shift for young people and the entire education system.

In our experience teachers are aware of this but don't know how to achieve this with their students.

Intuyu Consulting provides the access for schools to shift the culture of learning, and the practical hands-on approaches that teachers can develop the capacity to empower their students for a 21st century world
